The CAC asks the venues that do not broadcast digitally to return the licenses
The Consell de l'Audiovisual de Catalunya asks private local operators who do not see themselves capable of broadcasting digitally to return their DTT licenses.
Although Ramón Font, president of the Consell de l'Audiovisual de Catalunya (CAC), admitted, on the occasion of the plenary session of this body held yesterday in Girona that until now the CAC had acted with understanding so as not to harm the sector, now, in the face of the imminent analogue blackout, he asked those local television stations that are having difficulties to renounce the concession.
According to Font, this will allow “clarifying the audiovisual panorama” since “if a concessionaire operator does not broadcast, it harms the rest.” The president made the differentiation between private and public operators very clear, since the latter, although they have not begun to broadcast digitally, have a space reserved by law. Given this situation, he pointed out that the CAC could choose between “making the list run, opening a new contest or doing nothing.”
Given the crisis that the sector is experiencing, the most likely thing is that the CAC, despite this public request, will opt for the last option… doing nothing.
