DeckLink and Squid, hand in hand in World Cup coverage for Argentina

The Argentine broadcasters TyC Sports, Telefe and Torneos y Competencias are using Blackmagic's DeckLink Studio capture and player cards together with XV-Tech's Squid broadcast software in their coverage of the World Cup in South Africa.

The Argentine broadcasters TyC Sports, Telefe and Torneos y Competencias are using Blackmagic's DeckLink Studio capture and player cards together with XV-Tech's Squid broadcast software in their coverage of the World Cup in South Africa.

The combination of Blackmagic Design products with those of XV-Tech has a long history of use in Argentina, with notable success stories such as the broadcast of the Beijing 2008 games by TyC Sports of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games. Currently this combination is being used by more than 60 Argentine channels.

TyC Sports, Telefe and Torneos y Competencias are using this technology together as part of a tapeless workflow that allows them to record and play back both SD and HD audio and video from South Africa. This end-to-end solution allows them to ingest feeds and integrate signals from all World Cup matches for post-production, editing and broadcast. All footage will also be available via archive systems once the games conclude on July 11.

The XV-Tech Squid system provides a complete system for managing video clips, including the LoopRecorders feature, which allows broadcasters to record and manage all footage for immediate and future use, with media being recorded directly into LoopRecorders and then sent to editing and broadcast servers without any interruption. With the LoopRecoders, DeckLink Studio is used as a primary capture and playback device for SD and HD signals.

The DeckLink Studio compatible 10-bit PCI Express video capture card works with both SD and HD, and includes SDI support, HDMI and analog video, analog and digital audio, SD keying, and an HD to SD hardware converter perfect for broadcast editing and design. Compatible with Windows or Mac Pro Intel. The audio offers four balanced analog audio channels, two AES/EBU channels, blackburst and tri-sync reference inputs and RS-422 control.
