Javier Trueba presents the documentary 'The mystery of the giant crystals'
This Thursday, the UIMP hosts the official premiere of 'The Mystery of the Giant Crystals', a documentary by Javier Trueba that takes the viewer into the depths of the earth in search of the most beautiful treasures in the world.
Today the Menéndez Pelayo International University (UIMP) hosts the premiere in Spain of The mystery of the giant crystals, an informative documentary directed by the filmmaker Javier Trueba, who will star in this new session of the 'Cinema at the University' cycle along with his brothers, the filmmakers Fernando and David Trueba.
The event will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the Royal Hall of the Palacio de La Magdalena with free entry until capacity is reached and will include a discussion with Javier Trueba at the end of the screening.
This session of the 'Cinema at the University' cycle is included in the Cultural Activities of the UIMP and is held in conjunction with the 'Crystallography at School' Meeting, which is being taught in La Magdalena this week as part of the University Master's Degree in Crystallography and Crystallization organized by this University and the Higher Council for Scientific Research.
The documentary The mystery of the giant crystals It is a fascinating adventure of scientific research. A journey that takes the viewer into the depths of the earth in search of the most beautiful treasures of the mineral world, with the aim of explaining one of its great mysteries: the formation of giant gypsum crystals.
With the help of Professor Juan Manuel García Ruiz, who has written the script and provided scientific assistance for this documentary, a journey is taken that visits the Roman mines of Segóbriga, the largest geode in Europe, in Almería, the volcanic depths of the Andean mountain range and the grandiose Cueva de los Cristales de Naica, an authentic crystal palace hidden under the Mexican desert of Chihuahua.
La investigación desarrollada por el profesor García Ruiz y su equipo ha permitido explicar la formación de los cristales gigantes de Naica con una teoría que ha sido publicada en las revistas científicas más prestigiosas del mundo y mantiene una línea de investigación fundamental sobre la conducta de la nucleación y crecimiento de los cristales y sus propiedades físicas y aplicaciones.
