CMT sector report: we are still in the red… but less

During the second quarter of the year, the sector recorded revenues of 9,743 million euros, 2.9% less compared to the same period of the previous year. As in previous quarters, the volume of income, both wholesale and retail, presented year-on-year declines, however, these were more moderate. In the case of audiovisual services, income was 1,199 million euros. Transportation revenues increase, but diffusion continues to decline.

Durante el segundo trimestre de este año, el sector de las comunicaciones registró unos ingresos de 9.743 millones de euros, un 2,9% menos con respecto al mismo periodo del año anterior. Al igual que en trimestres precedentes, el volumen de ingresos, tanto mayoristas como minoristas, presentó caídas interanuales, sin embargo, estas fueron más moderadas.

En el capítulo de los servicios minoristas se obtuvieron unos ingresos de 8.219 millones de euros, un 2,5% menos que entre abril-junio de 2009. Sin embargo, comparado con los datos que se registraron en el segundo trimestre de 2009, vemos una moderación en la caída de los ingresos, ya que entre abril-junio de 2009 los ingresos por servicios minoristas presentaron un descenso interanual del 7,9%, hasta los 8.428 millones de euros.

In the case of audiovisual services, revenues were 1,199 million euros, 0.3% more than during the same period of the previous year. Regarding income in the audiovisual sector in general (including subsidies) they increased by 8.9%. The number of pay television subscribers was 4.53 million, 8.9% more than during the same quarter of the previous year.

Telephony and broadband

For final services, fixed telephony presented revenues of 1,475 million euros, 6.3% less than during the same quarter of the previous year, while during April-June 2009, its fall was 11.6% (1,574 million euros). For its part, mobile telephony presented a business volume of 3,508 million euros, 3% less. Between April-June 2009, mobile telephony fell 4% year-on-year to 3,618 million euros. For its part, income linked to Internet services remained practically the same, up to 980 million euros, 0.2% more than in the same period of the previous year. The largest increases were recorded in residential Internet access services (dedicated accesses), with 658 million euros, 4.7% more. For its part, Internet revenues linked to the business segment fell by 8.4%, to 196 million euros.
