Alejandro Ormazábal Echevarría, vice president of Velatia, has been appointed president of the Electronic Industry Sector Area at AMETIC. Ormazábal replaces Pedro Mier who, last March, was elected as the new president of the technology association.

The Electronic Industry Sector Area brings together all companies that manufacture or distribute electronic equipment, mainly to be supplied to other companies in the sector. Its objectives are to defend the interests of Electronics Companies, highlighting, vis-à-vis the AAPP, their importance in terms of innovation capacity, job creation and export capacity, as well as acting to promote an Industrial Policy, in Spain and in Europe, in which the Electronics Industry plays a relevant role; and establish a set of indicators that allow us to know the evolution of the electronics industry at all stages of its value chain.

The Electronic Industry Sector Area at AMETIC is made up of different commissions and work groups: Automotive Electronics and Connectivity, Electronic Components, Semiconductors, Professional Electronics, Telecommunications Industries, Mobile Phones, Signal Processing and Radiocommunications.

Alejandro Ormazábal, the new president of the Area, has a degree in Mechanical Engineering Sciences from the Parks College of Aviation and Technology at Saint Louis University in Missouri. He completed his studies at ESADE through an Executive MBA and with different specialization programs in the fields of energy, competitiveness and strategy. His professional career began in 2000 with his joining Ormazabal, the family group company dedicated to the electrical business.

In 2002 he founded Knock, a company dedicated to the engineering, design and sale of infrastructure solutions for communications networks, which he directed for 7 years, later holding his presidency. His career has, therefore, been especially linked to the telecommunications sector, since he has also been a director of Ikusi, promoting the development of sophisticated capabilities for the deployment of Smart Grids and Smart Cities.

He is currently vice president of Velatia, a company of which he has been a director since 2003. On the other hand, he chairs the Family Business Club, participates in the ESADE ALUMNI Energy Club, and is co-founder of ADTEE, the Association for the Development of Exponential Technologies in Euskadi.
