Alejandro Echevarría, honorary president of Mediaset España
The president of Mediaset Spain, Alejandro Echevarría Busquet, has communicated his intention to leave his position coinciding with the expiration of his contract, although he will remain linked to the company as honorary president.
Echevarría's farewell will be made official coinciding with the company's next Ordinary General Shareholders' Meeting, next April.
Echevarria has held the presidency of Mediaset Spain during the last 26 years, since he joined its Board of Directors in 1996, representing the interests of the then Correo Group. Following the departure of this group from the shares of Mediaset España, Echevarría maintained his status as president of this company as an independent director..
Since his position as president, Echevarría has represented the interests “of the entire television sector in all forums,” promoting the creation of the Union of Commercial Televisions (UTECA), whose presidency he has held on various occasions.
Mediaset Spain has defined as “undeniable"the "transcendental role that Mr. Echevarría has played in the Spanish audiovisual field, contributing to the promotion and development of the television sector, as well as the modernization and continuous updating of the applicable regulatory framework."
