'That Happy Couple' and the international version of 'The Executioner' (uncensored) will be screened, which includes six minutes of the copy that premiered in Spain.

The Society of Authors, through the Buñuel Institute, remembers this week the filmmaker Luis García Berlanga (Valencia, 1921) in the Madrid movie theater that bears his name (Andrés Mellado, 53 Madrid). This Monday and Tuesday, November 29 and 30, the Sala Berlanga will have a double program of films by the great Valencian filmmaker who died on November 13. The sessions will be at 4 p.m. and 8 p.m., and tickets will have a symbolic price of 3 euros. Attendees will be able to enjoy the international version of The executioner, an uncensored copy, which includes six extra minutes of the copy that was released in Spain. Additionally, the program includes the That happy couple, Berlanga's film debut that he directed with Juan Antonio Bardem and starring Fernando Fernán-Gómez, Elvira Quintillá and José Luis Ozores. (This film marked Berlanga's film debut).

The Society of Authors will pay a well-deserved tribute to the director and screenwriter in November 2011, when the first anniversary of his death will be celebrated, with a program of activities dedicated to his figure, which will include, in addition to a film series, conferences, round tables and other events.

The death of Luis García Berlanga has caused great sadness in the world of culture, in which he leaves an irreparable void, as well as unanimous admiration. His passion for life, his lucidity, his irony, his intelligence, his ability to provoke and to portray like few others the Spain in which he lived, have been remembered, to which he bore witness in an invaluable legacy for future generations.

A member of the SGAE, he was the founder of the Academy of Cinematographic Arts and Sciences, of which he was Honorary President. Among the many awards that Berlanga received throughout his life, the Prince of Asturias Award for the Arts, Goya for best director for All in Prison, the National Cinematography Award, the Gold Medal of Fine Arts and the Doctor Honoris Causa from the Complutense University of Madrid stand out.
