7thSense, the content server specialist providing solutions to a wide variety of markets, is displaying an audiovisual dome as the centerpiece of Canon's stand at Integrated Systems Europe 2011.
This dome, originally shown in New York and Paris as part of Canon's largest Expo event, allows, together with three 7thSense Delta content servers, each with four outputs, to natively project a 3200x3200 pixel fisheye film as a sequence of uncompressed TGA images on each server, so that no additional processing is necessary in the system. A total of ten Canon XEED SX7 projectors are interconnected to create an immersive experience for the audience with a 9 meter long mosaic image.
Ian Macpherson, director of 7thSense, said: "The Canon dome concept was devised by agency Imagination, who, in turn, came to us to design a dome display solution. Imagination created a 6-minute demo, shot solely with Canon products in locations such as New York, Tokyo and Paris, integrating it with CGI elements as a virtual flight through the world-famous Guggenheim museum in New York.
"It was our task to realize the immersive environment devised by Imagination and Canon in a way that did justice to the content. This content was then generated once the position and angle of the dome were defined. 7thSense then designed the technical installation and provided both the technology and the projection and mapping support. We worked with dome specialist Holovis, to create a unique composition. The physical installation and alignment of the system using Delta was carried out jointly by 7thSense and Holovis in just four days from start to finish. After New York, the dome moved to Paris. In both places it was received with great enthusiasm by the audience,” said Ian Macpherson.
Commenting on Imagination's role in the design, creation, construction and execution of the Canon Expo, Lee Munden, account director at Imagination, added: "The underlying idea behind the Canon dome was to showcase manufacturers' technology in a way that was not only visually stunning, but also genuinely pioneering. Wherever the limits are drawn in this regard, there are inevitably challenges on a technical level, although we are proud to announce that 7thSense responded magnificently. Their technology server, their design skills and their service ethic were exactly what we needed to complete the project.”
Canon Europe's Julian Rutland comments: "There is no better way to demonstrate Canon's expertise as a visual solutions manufacturer than with something that demonstrates both our content acquisition and our projection technology. The Canon dome does exactly that, and we are very pleased to be able to bring it to ISE in Amsterdam."
