At NAB 2011, Quantel is showcasing its enhancements to the workflow integration toolset and developments for eQ, iQ and Pablo. Among other novelties that Quantel is presenting at NAB, the Qube editor stands out, a new material editor for its systems in the production market based on Enterprise sQ servers.

Among other news that Quantel (Booth SL2014) is presenting at NAB highlights the Qube editor, a new material editor for its systems in the production market based on Enterprise sQ servers. Qube delivers up to four times faster HD performance at a lower cost than its predecessor (sQ Edit Plus HD), thanks to GPU-accelerated processing with CUDA on the latest integrated nVidia Quadro professional graphics card.

Qube is equipped with the latest 3 GHz HDSDI interfaces. The 3G interface allows 1080p and Stereo3D resolutions to be transmitted on a single cable instead of the two used today. The 3G interface is fully backward compatible with existing 1.5 GHz HDSDI infrastructure, so Qube can easily integrate with both new and existing installations.

Qube supports SD, HD, 1080p and Stereo3D formats. To provide the greatest added value to its many customers today, support for Stereo3D and 1080p50/60 (with real-time playback) is optional on Qube. It is very easy to upgrade and incorporate Stereo3D and 1080p, making Qube a proven option for the future.

Workflow integration

At NAB 2011, Quantel is showcasing its suite of workflow integration tools and developments for eQ, iQ and Pablo. Among other improvements, new color controls stand out. Color experts crave control over the appearance of the image and need tools that allow them to work specifically on certain parts of the image. The new Quantel Range Control is a very powerful addition to the Pablo toolset, providing absolute precision and subtlety in selective color control.

Quantel now supports ARRIRAW for the new Alexa camera, following the release of the recent ARRI SDK. This allows Quantel systems to import and extract data directly from Alexa ARRIRAW files, and also generate files from the well-known ARRI D21 and D20 cameras.

Also launched at NAB is support for importing and exporting MXF-wrapped DNxDH files in a full range of bit rates and color depths. This new development simplifies Avid/Quantel integration.

As for audio, using HDSDI embedded audio it is now possible to receive and play up to 16 tracks simultaneously, with full internal monitoring and switching between tracks. This development is the result of feedback collected from users who are handling an increasing amount of multi-language and Stereo 3D 5.1 content.

QTube

QTube is shown at its stand working with the Enterprise sQ broadcast production system that allows effective teamwork between offices anywhere in the world. QTube offers an important step in creativity and efficiency, ensuring from Quantel that “content creation will never be the same again.” QTube is a true IP workflow.

Enterprise sQ is currently being used by broadcasters, in news and sports, around the world. It is a complete production system that includes servers, editors, ingest and playout, as well as a full set of workflow tools to allow the integration of third-party systems and protocols. At NAB, we will see Enterprise sQ enhanced with a new editor, new workflow application, and a completely updated and revised media asset management system.

Qube y sQ

Qube offers high performance at a lower cost than its predecessor sQ Edit Plus, being the first product in Quantel's broadcast range to take advantage of CUDA GPU accelerated processing. Qube includes 3G HDSDI interfaces, being powerful enough to work with 1080p and stereoscopy.

As far as sQ Fileflow is concerned, it is a new application for Enterprise sQ systems. The sQ file-based flow has been developed to meet the requirements of customers who needed tight integration with XDCAM HD.

sQ Fileflow enables quick and easy transfer of native XDCAM HD files to and from sQ systems. Using an IT-friendly service interface, sQ Fileflow makes it even easier to effectively integrate sQ into every workflow, for example on servers for broadcast with long-gop compression and XDCAM HD files.

Another Las Vegas debut is Mission 3, the latest version of Quantel's successful media management system. It incorporates new functions integrated into a very clear interface, a key inclusion is, for example, full unicode support that allows you to work with languages such as Japanese, Chinese or Korean.

Stereoscopy and finishing

For stereoscopic production of both films and television programs, Quantel iQ and Pablo are well known and used for their 3D capabilities incorporated into Enterprise sQ systems last year. At NAB we will see new tools such as GeoFix that uses advanced image analysis to automatically correct possible differences between the two cameras. As for Disparity Checker, it provides real-time measurement of problems in 3D parameters such as axis helping users meet new content specifications for stereoscopic environments.

All of these new tools will be included in version 5 of the eQ range.
