The latest trends are once again reflected in the IBC Innovation Awards that will be presented in September coinciding with the Amsterdam fair. These awards are unique to celebrate not only technology but the application of this technology and teamwork.

From live sports to 3D prehistoric monsters and the most cutting-edge news production, the jury has chosen the most representative of the industry worldwide in content creation, management and delivery.

The four finalists in content creation, each in a very different field, are these:

  • YouReporter, a brave and innovative citizen journalism initiative by RIA Novosti in Russia.
  • Large-scale live production of MotoGP by Dorna Sports, using thousands of clips to capture the excitement of motorsport, using technology supplied by Grass Valley
  • CNBC 4D – Interactive motion tracking to allow CNBC presenters to interact with 3D graphics, using Unreel technology, with Brainstorm and Motion Analysis
  • Post-production Flying among 3D Dinosaurs, with which David Attenborough and pterosaurs fly together thanks to Sgo's Mistika technology for On Sight with Atlantic Productions, Vision3 and Sky3D TV Channel

There are also four finalists in the content management category:

  • Globalizing Rogers' workflow, linking journalists across Canada at Rogers Media, using Quantel technology to give journalists access to all content wherever they are.
  • Transition to digital at ProSiebenSat.1 Produktion integrating a complete digital content management system using the IBM Media Framework Enterprise with additional technology and the integration of BFE, Harris, Tektronix and Vizrt, with notable cost savings.
  • Jupiter Tools, giving BBC journalists free access to tools for content, metadata and editing anywhere, using technology from BLStream, Quantel and Rhozet.
  • Integrated global news production on CNN, using technology from Adobe, Apple, IPV, Omneon, Sony, VizRT, JVC and Telestream to support thousands of users and 20,000 new assets per week

For content distribution and delivery, the three finalists for the IBC Awards are:

  • Digital End To End, to offer your movies and television programs to hundreds of stations, mastheads, cinemas and websites, using technology from Accenture and AmberFin.
  • MetroEthernet, a high-capacity IP network that allows the exchange of IP files on the Brazilian broadcaster Globo, with a deployment in which Cisco and Intelig teams have participated.
  • Single-frequency networks for HD, using a single cellular approach: Broadcast company DNA used technology and services from Plisch and TeamCast to get a DVB-T2 signal on the air very quickly.
