Barco develops its open Theater Management system for digital cinema
Barco has announced the launch of its new management platform for end-to-end digital cinema capable of managing and facilitating all actions related to the ingestion of material, programming and exhibition, including digital advertising.
Barco has announced the launch of its new management platform for end-to-end digital cinema. The Theater Management System (TMS) fully integrated with digital projection systems from Barco or any other brand offers an open digital asset management platform for cinema in multiplexes.
Wim Buyens, senior vice president of Barco's entertainment division, commented: "The introduction of the new Theater Management System (TMS) is the result of more than five years of intensive R&D. This vast experience is reflected in the TMS platform that is not only highly reliable, but also very intuitive to use. But what really sets our system apart is its seamless interoperability with all major brands of playback servers and its easy integration with a wide range of content delivery solutions and systems. ticketing”.
Investment in a system of this type is usually driven by the need for greater profitability and operational performance. This is exactly what Barco claims the new TMS platform offers. The system allows operators to manage every screen and every piece of content from a central location in a multi-room complex. "As an operator, you have full remote control to program or start the projection, ingest the content and manage your keys. In day-to-day practice, this means that a technician is no longer necessary in each projection booth with the consequent savings in costs and time," says Jérôme Delvaux, director of product development at Barco.
The system can easily connect to external mass storage devices and is fully equipped to receive content via broadband communications or satellite connection.
Additionally, the features of the TMS platform streamline ingestion management. The system automatically selects the pieces to be projected, notifying those that are missing or time mismatches. These characteristics make it especially relevant for digital advertising. Exhibitors that have an agreement with a central station can simply use the platform to transfer the spots to be projected directly from their central archive.
The new TMS platform can be seen in action these days at CineEurope which takes place until the 30th at the RAI in Amsterdam.
