Barco and China Film Group have signed an agreement to launch CFG Barco Electronics to develop the digital cinema market in the Asian country.
The newborn company will help China achieve the stipulations of the 12th Five-Year Plan (2011-2015), which foresees that the cultural industry will enter a period of rapid development in the next five years, and will contribute 5% of the country's GDP.
Through its customer service, sales, local R&D, and production facilities, the new company will maintain the brand and ensure service to all Barco equipment in the country. Leveraging China Film Equipment's experience and influence, the new company will develop more effective communication channels and a more intimate relationship with its customers.
Barco's position in the digital cinema market is based on customer loyalty, adaptation to the local market and strong innovation, especially in China. At the end of July 2011, more than 4,600 Barco digital cinema projectors had already been installed in Greater China (covering 65% of the Chinese market), confirming China's strategic position taking into account that the global park installed by Barco is about 20,000 projectors. To meet market demand, Barco has multiple factories in various regions around the world. The Beijing factory is already reaching a monthly production capacity of 500 projectors. Last year, Barco opened a research center in Beijing, becoming the first foreign projector manufacturer to open such a research center in China.
