Thanks to a system of beacons, the interactive guides have a location system, so effective that it allows the visitor to know at all times their position within the museum, the exhibition or outside tour, offering them multimedia information.

The city of Córdoba hosts the first implementation in Spain of the GVAM guides (Accessible Virtual Guides for Museums) in three of its museums. It is a revolutionary technological platform that will radically change the classic way of visiting the Alcázar of the Christian Monarchs, the Baths of the Alcázar Califal and the Julio Romero de Torres Museum.

GVAM is a system for creating interactive visits on mobile and web supports for exhibitions, events and tourist destinations. Córdoba will be the first Spanish city to implement a device in three of its museum spaces, which is also completely accessible.

The implementation of GVAM in Córdoba is the result of exhaustive work on digitization and translation of content, in which the Municipal Archive of Córdoba and the Urban Planning Management of the City Council have participated. Only in the mobile guide of the Alcázar are described 20 of its spaces and a total of 54 multimedia information units, while the Baths of the Alcázar Califal and the Julio Romero de Torres Museum have a total of 75 multimedia pieces distributed in 27 rooms.

The introduction of GVAM in Córdoba is part of the city's strategy to become the first to have museums for everyone. In this tactic, universal accessibility and new information technologies have played an essential role in leaving behind the reductionist culture of yesteryear.

The implementation of GVAM in Córdoba has involved a great deployment in terms of technology, making this introduction a large-scale project. More than 10,000 square meters between rooms and gardens, with more than 60 beacons installed, make it possible for GVAM guides to be pioneers in achieving the most advanced positioning system in the sector.

More than 120 different contents distributed in more than 30 rooms provide all the necessary information to make a visit to these museums something magical. To all this we must add the inclusion of multiple aids to make this information accessible to all audiences, such as audio descriptions, audio navigation, subtitling or videos in sign language.

GVAM, an interactive guide not only suitable for museums

GVAM has demonstrated its adaptation to the various museographic approaches in three museums in Córdoba, also applicable to fairs, urban spaces, visits to historical heritage and rural tourism.

The guides have a location system, so effective that it allows the visitor to know their position within the museum, exhibition or exterior tour at all times. With GVAM it is possible to create complete and partial routes, so that the user can choose based on available time. Furthermore, with these guides it is impossible to get lost, as they indicate the visitor's position and the way to reach any other desired point.
