Kodak introduces innovative film cleaning system
Proper cleaning of film material is vital for both archiving and restoration. In most cases, film has to be cleaned before being stored and before being digitized. Now, with the Kodak P-200 Film Cleaning System, institutions responsible for multimedia collections can keep their assets active with minimal infrastructure and investment.
Antonio Rasura, technical director of the consumer and film division at Kodak, highlights that the P-200 "is small, environmentally friendly, and easy to use, without the need to directly manipulate the solutions. Maintenance is also simplified, so it can be used both in traditional laboratories and by companies and institutions directly."
"The way the machine disperses the cleaning solution over the film is very unique. The system we have developed atomizes the solvent, using highly efficient jets that 'fog' the film with a very fine dispersion," says Rasura.
The system allows direct control of tension and speed, among other parameters, guided by a laser that can operate at speeds of 50 to 200 feet per minute while remaining constant throughout the entire coil, no matter how long it may be.
