Expert Mike Knee will give a presentation at IBC 2001 in which he will describe some of the most important challenges in terms of the algorithms involved in some of the 3D tracking tasks, which require automated systems that can carry out a careful high-level analysis of image content and measurement disparity.

Mike Knee, consulting research and development engineer at Snell, will hold an interesting technical presentation at IBC 2011 on Saturday, September 10 at 6:00 p.m. CEST. Under the title “‘Getting Machines to Watch 3D for You” in room E-102, Knee will address some of the most concerning issues in stereoscopy.

"The advantages of automatic control of multiple television channels are well known, but there simply are not enough human operator eyes to see what is happening. With the advent of stereoscopic 3D in commercial television production and distribution, the need for automatic control has become critical as 3D viewing is a much more complex experience," Knee said. This expert has advanced that "in this presentation, I am going to give a complete introduction to a wide range of automatic control possibilities for 3D, covering topics such as transport format, left/right channel identification, color mismatch between channels, vertical/horizontal disparities, time mismatch between channels, and inconsistencies between title and content depth...".

In his presentation, Knee will describe some of the major algorithmic challenges involved in some of the 3D tracking tasks, which require automated systems that can perform careful high-level analysis of image content and disparity measurement. The results of research into high-level algorithms, the challenges of automatic 3D control and the latest control innovations designed to allow human eyes to enjoy 3D without causing fatigue or injury will be presented.
