Miranda has just closed a million-dollar contract with NBCUniversal for the supply of numerous signal routing solutions through its facilities in the United States. The first phase of this project is the consolidation of its main routing systems at NBCUniversal studios in New York.

Miranda has just closed a million-dollar contract with NBCUniversal for the supply of numerous signal routing solutions through its facilities in the United States.

The new routing infrastructure chosen by the North American broadcaster is based on Nvision systems that will connect the New York and Los Angeles headquarters, as well as other production facilities throughout the United States.

Ian Trombley, executive vice president of operations at NBCUniversal, acknowledged that “after a very thorough review of available router technology, we chose Miranda because it offers the routing systems and support that best fit our immediate needs, as well as a development roadmap that addresses our future needs.”

The first phase of this project is the consolidation of its main routing systems at NBCUniversal studios in New York. The infrastructure will be based on Miranda's Nvision 8500 hybrid routers that offer integrated embedded audio processing, along with MADI and fiber connectivity, and N-in-1 crosspoint redundancy for the highest level of security.

A key element of the NBCUniversal New York facility upgrade is a gradual migration to the Nvision 9000 control platform. This gradual transition will avoid disruption to day-to-day operations as the new router infrastructure is implemented.

The new signal management system will involve a wide range of routers, from the large Nvision 8500 hybrid routers to the smaller Nvision Compact routers.

To streamline operations, production studios will employ embedded audio processing through the Nvision 8500, allowing for de-embedding, shuffling, break-away and re-embedding of signals. This integrated processing saves space, power, wiring and costs, while reducing potential audio-to-video latency issues.
