EITV develops an interactive TV platform for ISDB-T

The Brazilian EITV develops an interesting platform that completely covers the entire cycle of production, transmission and reception of interactive services for digital TV broadcasts under the Japanese-Brazilian ISDB-T standard.

The ISDB-T DTVi broadcast solution developed by the Brazilian SOMETHING is a complete platform for the production, transmission and reception of interactive services in digital TV generating stations. The solution involves all the stages necessary for the complete implementation of interactive services compatible with the DTVi standard, including:

• Ginga application development environment (DTVi)
• testing of applications in set-top box emulation tools
• access to databases and external repositories to obtain dynamic information about the applications
• publication of the applications in the data carousel generating system
• multiplexing of Ginga (DTVi) applications with audio and video content
• synchronization of the applications with the station programming defined by the master control
• transmission of applications using the ISDB-T standard
• reception of applications in set-top boxes and receivers compatible with the DTVi standard
• Internet access by applications that use the interactivity channel
• processing of interactive online services on return channel servers and payment and charging web services
• generation of statistical reports for the analysis of effectiveness of interactive services

Development

The main component of the application development environment is the EITV Developer Suite, which includes authoring and emulation tools, in addition to publishing tools for access to external repositories and databases and automated submission of applications to the data carousel generator. Additionally, an EITV Playout signal generating station and an EITV Developer Box development set-top box can be used in the application development environment.

For the station that generates interactive digital TV, the solution includes the EITV Playout Professional equipment that, in addition to being responsible for generating the data carousel with the Ginga (DTVi) applications, can also fulfill the functions of: SI server, EPG, closed caption, data (OAD), multiplexer and remultiplexer. EITV can also provide the HD and 1SEG encoders (Z3 MVE-02) and the low power ISDB-T transmitter (UBS DTX-1200U).

For the viewer, the solution includes interactive digital receivers compatible with the DTVi standard. In this case, TEKI products (TK-TS100 or TK-TS200) or any other digital receiver on the market that is compatible with the DTVi standard can be used.
