Canonical will present Ubuntu TV at CES 2012
Canonical aims to stand up to Google TV with a free alternative based on Ubuntu for televisions that will take the audiovisual experience one step further from the user.
Canonical will present Ubuntu TV at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2012 that opens its doors this Tuesday in Las Vegas. It will have an interface very similar to that of Unity and will allow the user to watch, save, rent and buy the different movies offered, as well as access various television channels.
Although details have not yet been revealed about the production companies and broadcasters that will join this initiative, we do know that Unbutu TV will be launched with a wide catalog with which Canonical takes a step forward compared to its possible competitors such as Google and Apple.
In Las Vegas we will be able to see Ubuntu TV on a few televisions, although throughout the year it is expected that other manufacturers will add this service although, logically, it will depend on how the year finally turns out for Google TV and the efforts that some manufacturers maintain to develop their own operating system.
