Closing the renewal process of the Union of Associated Commercial Televisions, initiated with the appointment of José Miguel Contreras as president and the approval of the new statutes of the association, UTECA has appointed Santiago Campos Calvo-Sotelo as the new general director.
Nephew of former president Leopoldo Calvo-Sotelo, he held various managerial tasks between 1996 and 2010 at Prisa TV and Sogecable, where he held the position of Director of Organization. Later, he was Director of Organization in the Presidency of the RTVE Corporation, during the mandate of Alberto Oliart. Naval Engineer (Polytechnic University of Madrid), Campos has a Master's degree in Economics and Business Management (IESE) and a long professional career as a manager in the world of television.
UTECA is preparing to face a new stage with the main objective of negotiating with the Government of Mariano Rajoy "a rethinking of the sector, establishing collaboration with the different entities that work in the audiovisual world and defending dialogue with all the sectors involved to develop a Spanish audiovisual industry that generates employment and is highly competitive."
In this sense, the association has indicated that it is preparing to face "a decisive period in the audiovisual sector, marked by the economic crisis and its devastating impact on advertising investment, and by the process of mergers between operators in application of the General Audiovisual Law approved in 2010."
