Vikingland is a daring film that presents life on board a merchant ship shown in all its rawness thanks to material recovered from video camera tapes.

Xurxo Chirro, with his documentary Vikingland has won the official section of the eighth edition of Play-Doc International Documentary Festival of Tui.

Carlos Muguiro, president of the international jury, justified this award to "reward a film that creates deep emotional reverberations between the protagonist and the filmmaker, over a period of 20 years and in a surprising act of generosity. It is a film in which the protagonist shows the filmmaker the path to discover his own voice."

Vikingland is a daring film that presents life on board a merchant ship that is shown in all its rawness thanks to the material recovered from tapes from a video camera with which he recorded his routine on board for more than a year. The footage, ordered by Chirro slightly inspired by Moby Dick, is shown as an essential document of the Galician diaspora, and as an accurate portrait of the world of work at sea.

Another Galician documentary, You are all captains, directed by Oliver Laxe, was the winner of the 2011 edition.
