'El Hoyo' triumphs at the Sitges Festival

The thriller, directed by Galder Gaztelu-Urrutiase, won in the categories of Best Film, Best Special Effects and took home the Grand Audience Prize.

The Hole (The Platform), first film of Ask Castle-Urrutiase, has triumphed at the 52nd edition of the International Fantastic Film Festival of Catalonia. The jury formed by Anurag Kashyap, Alan Jones, Marina Ortiz, Mary Jo Markey and Nancy Bishop has awarded the film the award for Best Film and Best Special Effects (Iñaki Madariaga) from the official section. The thriller has also won the Grand Audience Award and its director, Galder Gaztelu-Urrutiase, has won the Citizen Kane Award for New Director.

The Hole is an atmospheric social thriller with touches of science fiction starring Ivan Massagué that deals with selfishness set in a dystopian future. Produced by Basque Films in co-production with Mr.Miyagi Films y AIE Film Platform, has the participation of RTVE y EITB and the support of the Ministry of Culture-ICAA, Basque Government and ICO.

Bacurau, another deeply ironic, brutal and critical dystopia of the current times and which won the Jury Prize at the last Cannes Festival, has been the other big winner of the contest.

Its filmmakers, the Brazilians Kleber Mendoça and Juliano Domelles have won the award for best address and the José Luis Guarner Critics Award.
