Trigital supplies post-production solutions for 'The Pelayos'
Pixel in Motion creates the 3D plans with the Autodesk Softimage and The Foundry Nuke applications.
The animation studio Pixel in Motion has created the 3D effects of the film directed by Eduard Cortés The Pelayos with Autodesk Softimage and The Foundry Nuke applications, provided by Trigital.
The company responsible for the post-production of this feature, Nine Eyes, commissioned Pixel in Motion to create the 3D effects of The Pelayos. Pixel in Motion has digitally recreated two slow motion shots of a casino chip, as well as the closest shots of the roulette wheel where the ball was required to land on a series of specific numbers required by the script.
During the filming of the film at the Lloret Casino, HDRI panoramic photographs were taken to recreate the lighting conditions of the sequence shots, which would later be used as a light source with Mental Ray's Final Gathering. Reference photographs were also taken to accurately model and texture the spinner.
Softimage XSI
The Softimage XSI dynamics system was used to animate the ball, throwing it into the scene with a speed and direction similar to what a real croupier would use; When the final bounces were adequate, the texture of the roulette wheel was modified so that the number chosen in the script fit the final position of the ball.
For the composition, multiple layers of the scene were rendered (color, masks, reflection, brightness, motion blur, depth...) to be able to adjust each of them separately in Nuke. For the final finish, the Frischluft Lenscare plugin was used to create depth blurs similar to those of a real camera.
To calculate the render, Pixel in Motion's own render farm was used with a total of 14 stations and 112 process cores.
