Avid announces DS 11, designed to maximize creativity
The new version accelerates content creation workflows with high-level manually adjustable color correction, and offers greater support for file formats and hardware.
Avid has announced the launch of Avid DS 11, the latest version of its solution for editing, graphics creation, color correction and multi-layer compositing. With new features such as manually adjustable color correction and integration with Avid Artist Color, expanded hardware and file format support, and 16 channels of embedded audio, the DS 11 enables customers to maximize creativity and increase productivity through integrated, flexible workflows.
One of the main new features is the ability to send sequences (in high resolution 2D) directly from Media Composer 6 or Symphony 6. Conforming is carried out without any problem, ensuring that our sequences remain exactly the same even if we move them from one system to another.
David Colantuoni, senior product manager at Avid, highlighted that "with DS 11, customers have editing, multi-layer compositing, design, configuration and finishing tools on projects they need to create and deliver quickly. We are pleased to provide greater flexibility and integration in DS 11, and, thus, offer our customers the highest quality tools that can help us spend more time creating and not rendering or exporting to other applications."
Main improvements
Among the new features introduced by DS 11, the following stand out:
- Integration between Avid Artist Color and Avid Artist Transport, offering greater manual precision and the ability to accelerate color correction, colorimetry, editing and navigation, compatible with Artist Color and Artist Transport.
- Timeline Merge Modes, which speeds up workflow flows through merging operations directly on the timeline with single or multiple clips.
- Support for GOP Long material, allowing editors to connect to material in GOP Long MXF Essence (such as XDCAM) and play it from Media Composer or Symphony, eliminating transcoding time.
- Avid DNxHD 444, which allows users to edit high-resolution material in real time, using this codec.
- Support for HDR files, allowing images to be used in projects with Open XR and TIFF DCDM formats,
- Support for cameras, such as the RED Epic and RED Scarlet, and for third-party hardware. It now supports AJA KONA 3G cards, as well as any other hardware already supported in Media Composer and Symphony.
- Work with up to 16 channels of embedded audio, instead of the eight that until now could be captured and mixed. Up to 16 channels can also be sent via AFE, from Media Composer.
- Option to customize font generators size and visual effects (for graphics generation).
