EVS in the Gulf Nations Cup

EVS XT3 servers help Al-Kass manage the live production of this major sporting event that ended last weekend.

The Qatari sports broadcaster Al Dawri wal Kass (Al-Kass) carried out the broadcast of the 21st Gulf Nations Cup, which concluded on January 17, with the help of technology from EVS.

Al Kass covers national sports and offers extensive football coverage, including major tournaments such as the World Cup qualifying round and the AFC Asian Cup. For the Gulf Nations Cup, Al Kass needed to turn to EVS to carry out the production of this popular sport in Arabia.

Al Kass provided a fleet of mobile units for the live production of this major football event, as well as highlights and feed to the main press room at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Manama.

Samer Younes, consulting engineer at Al Kass, highlighted that "we needed an integrated and collaborative workflow that would help us respond more quickly and efficiently in content management. We drew on EVS' experience in live sports production to obtain the necessary tools to carry this broadcast reliably. The project has been a great success."

EVS provided an integrated workflow from ingest to output based on its XT3 servers. Three of the eight channels on the XT3 servers were used for ingest and playout from the National Stadium in East Riffa and the Khalifa International Stadium in Bahrain. Al-Kass used the IPDirector solution to manage all material, from infestation, to highlight production, to playlist management. All the material was immediately available to editors and journalists through an XStoreNAS, allowing summaries to be generated immediately.

The EVS system has been fully integrated with an Avid ISIS, allowing clips to be moved from the XT3 ISIS server for advanced high-resolution editing. Once editing was completed, the pieces were transferred back to the XT3 servers for broadcast.
