Dolby Atmos surpasses the 50-film barrier with five new titles announced at CineEurope 2013
More than 50 screens will be equipped with Dolby Atmos in 15 countries in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, bringing the number to more than 200 screens worldwide.
Dolby has announced at CineEurope 2013 five new films that will be mixed in Dolby Atmos, an innovative audio solution that revolutionizes the sound experience in entertainment. After joining The witches of Zugarramundi (Spain), Mindscape (Spain and Canada), Tarzan 3D (Germany), Mr. Go (Korea) and the nature documentary Guadalquivir (Spain), Dolby Atmos has reached the mark of 50 films in one year since the release of Brave (Indomitable) dand Disney Pixar in June 2012.
new movies
The witches of Zugarramundi, directed by Álex de la Iglesia and produced by Enrique Cerezo, will be presented this year at the San Sebastián International Film Festival in September.
Mindscape is a co-production of Spain and Canada and a psychological thriller directed by Jorge Dorado, as well as a production of Ombra Films, The Safran Company and Atresmedia Cine in association with Roxbury. It will be presented in September at Canada's Toronto International Film Festival.
Guadalquivir is a nature documentary produced by Wanda Films that will be screened at the Seville European Film Festival in November.
Sound technician Nicolás de Poulpiquet will mix these three films in Dolby Atmos in the Best Digital post-production studio in Madrid.
Tarzan 3D, directed by Reinhard Klooss and produced by Klooss and Robert Kulzer, will see the return to the big screen of one of literature's most famous figures with spectacular animation 100 years after the character's creation. The film will premiere in Germany in October 2013 and will be distributed by Constantin Film.
Mr. Go, Korea's first Dolby Atmos film, tells the story of an orphaned Chinese girl who befriends a gorilla destined to become a Korean professional baseball star. The film was mixed by Dexter Lab, the first Korean studio to work with Dolby Atmos. Audiences will be able to enjoy Dolby Atmos, the next-generation sound format, when Showbox releases the film in Korea on July 17 and when Huayi Bros releases it in China on July 18.
Dolby Atmos CP850 processor
The Dolby Atmos CP850 cinema processor offers a complete audio solution for today's digital cinemas, creating a natural and realistic sound experience for audiences. Using attributes about the specific placement of speakers and their performance, the CP850 renders in real time a custom mix for the room that reproduces the audio experience originally conceived by the sound technician with great precision. The CP850 can also play Dolby Atmos sound on up to 64 audio channels, can be configured between 16 analog outputs and one Dolby Atmos Connect output, and enables Dolby Surround 7.1 and 5.1 digital playback. Additionally, it is also compatible with common consumer formats used with alternative content in cinemas: Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby E and Dolby's most advanced mixing technology. To ensure proper installation and playback, the purchase of each CP850 also includes Dolby's commissioning service.
Over the past year, Dolby sound engineers have worked closely with exhibitors, installers, studios and sound technicians to ensure that all installations meet the highest and most demanding standards. The CP850 works seamlessly with the Dolby DSS200 display server, Dolby Integrated Media Block (IMB), or Dolby DSS220 display server, as well as digital cinema servers from other companies. All major server manufacturers have access to Dolby technical specifications and a detailed reference design to integrate Dolby Atmos support into their products.
The Dolby Atmos commissioning service, included with the purchase of the CP850, provides a review of the design of a theater's sound system to ensure that speakers and amplifiers provide the performance and room coverage necessary to deliver a high-quality Dolby Atmos experience. Additionally, initial room equalization after installing the equipment is also included.
