Netflix launches first combined Dolby Atmos and Dolby Vision experience
'Okja', which Netflix itself produces, will be the first film that combines both technologies that will be available in the Netflix catalog.
Netflix subscribers around the world who have an LG TV will be able to enjoy Okay, the first film that the platform will distribute and that combines the technologies Dolby Atmos y Dolby Vision.
This is the first step of an ambitious plan that will bring availability to other devices, to make the joint experience of the two technologies more accessible. In addition, all Dolby Atmos content from Netflix will also be available with Xbox when it is connected to a sound system that has Dolby Atmos or also through headphones, with the new functionality that is available in the Dolby Access app in the Xbox Store.
Dolby Atmos delivers an immersive sound experience while Dolby Vision transforms the home TV experience thanks to the high dynamic range innovation already employed by cinemas around the world, delivering greater brightness and contrast as well as a richer color palette using dynamic metadata and Dolby's mapping engine on every playback device.
Greg Peters, director of product at Netflix, assures that “with the incorporation of Dolby Atmos support in Netflix, we are able to offer the most cutting-edge experience to our global customers and provide a creative tool to artists.”
Xbox users can access content with Dolby Atmos when they connect their console to a Dolby Atmos home theater, TV or sound bar or through headphones with the new Dolby Atmos for headphones feature available for purchase through the Dolby Access app in the Xbox Store. For its part, LG's new line of OLED televisions already incorporates Dolby Atmos capabilities that create an immersive sound environment without the need to connect to an external Dolby Atmos system.
