Mike Ybarra, Head of Platform Engineering at Xbox, has assured that "on the Xbox team we are all gamers, so we are delighted that next year we will offer Dolby Atmos support for our Xbox One and Windows 10 games. This way we will be able to get even more into the action of our favorite titles thanks to the sound. Many thanks to the Dolby team for partnering with us, we are excited to share even more things with the Xbox community next year."

Spencer Hooks, Director of Gaming at Dolby, states that "you can experience Dolby Atmos in your home theater, as long as you have a Dolby Atmos-compatible speaker system or sound bar. However, it will not be necessary to have this equipment, since it will be possible to enable virtually any pair of headphones with the Dolby Atmos experience."

Xbox also announced this week that Blu-ray bitstreaming, which includes Dolby Atmos support on Xbox One and Xbox One S, was being extended to Xbox Preview members. This feature allows all Xbox consoles to pass Blu-ray audio data intact to the user's audio equipment, allowing your audio receiver or other audio device to produce a superior surround sound experience.

This is a top fan-requested feature and allows Xbox users who have invested in professional audio setups to experience the best possible audio from their Blu-ray movies. To use this feature you will need your console to be connected via HDMI to a compatible audio receiver that offers decoding support for the most popular Blu-ray audio formats.
