The FTTH-neutral network provider employs the Volicon Observer Remote Program Monitor (RPM) to monitor video services delivered over its network.

Volicon ObserverPublic Infrastructure Management of the Principality of Asturias (GIT), a neutral network provider on FTTH, is using Remote Program Monitor (RPM) Observer from Volicon to control video services delivered over your network. Supplied by system integrator JokerTV, the Observer system makes it easy for GIT staff to monitor signals from different direct contribution points and checking how those signals reach the end user.

Iván Díaz, business development manager at GIT, has assured that "by providing video feedback, with automatic extraction of defective clips, and issuing alerts, Observer RPM not only shows us the status of services on the network, but also provides a visual record that our engineers can use to evaluate and repair any problem that arises. A picture is worth 1,000 words, and so with the visibility of all services, no matter where they originate, we maintain real control over the services of video provided throughout the entire network.

Installed locally or at a remote location, the Observer RPM 400 system continuously analyzes all channels with its required tests. The system automatically detects faults such as missing, frozen, or black video, audio levels out of range or macroblocking. When these errors occur, or when the output quality drops below predefined thresholds, the Volicon system sends a message (via email and SNMP) to GIT engineers. The system also includes clips that illustrate the failure, making it easy for engineering staff to quickly resolve the issue.

GIT carried out the deployment and currently maintains the Astur Network of Neutral Optical Communications). On the other hand, it provides connectivity services to the Administration of the Principality of Asturias, linking various headquarters with the central CPD and configuring the new SIAI network of hospital services.

It also carried out the extension of DTT coverage to percentages close to 100% of the Principality's population, installing equipment and improving infrastructure in 350 locations.
