The Austrian ORF in collaboration with the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) produces the popular concert once again, this time under the direction of Daniel Baremboin.

New Year's Concert 2014

Once again this year, classical music lovers have had a date with the traditional New Year's Concert of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, which is held in the Golden Hall of the Musikverein. This year, the orchestra under the baton of Daniel Baremboin and conducted by Michel Beyer, the concert has been followed by millions of spectators in 70 countries. The Austrian public broadcaster ORF, in collaboration with the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), has once again been in charge of the production of this event.

The most popular concert of the year, which has been held for 74 years, has included in this edition works by the brothers Johann, Joseph and Eduard Strauss, Johann Strauss (father) and Joseph Hellmesberger (son).

Maestro Daniel Baremboim has conducted the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra for the second time in this New Year's concert, on the occasion of their 25 years of collaboration. After the year of Wagner and Verdi that was celebrated in 2013, 2014 will be dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the birth of Richard Strauss, considered an instigator of modernity and the last representative of the Romantic era. The concert, with music by the entire Strauss family, paid tribute to his figure.

The City Palace is the location chosen for the two interludes of the Vienna State Ballet. The dancers danced to the rhythm of Leo Délibes and Joseph Lanner with a choreography that was in charge, like last year, of Ashley Page. The big surprise of this year's concert is the designer of the dancers' costumes: Vivienne Westwood.

During the interval of the New Year's Concert, viewers were able to learn details of the behind-the-scenes broadcast to see the preparations for the event, the making of the costumes, or the first rehearsals of the orchestra and ballets.

In Spain, the broadcast of the concert by TVE was the most watched of its broadcast slot, obtaining a 26.2% share and 1,898,000 followers. A total of 5,271,000 viewers watched the broadcast at some point.
