'Romeo and Juliet', the new Mediaset series, filmed with Sony CineAlta
'Romeo and Juliet' constitutes, together with 'Ana Karenina' and 'The Thousand and One Nights', one of the international co-productions of Mediaset España with the Italian production company Lux Vide inspired by great works of universal literature.
The actor from A Coruña Martiño Rivas (Romeo) and the Neapolitan Alessandra Mastronardi (Julieta) will give life to Romeo and Juliet, a new television version of the famous drama written by William Shakespeare at the end of the 16th century and which Telecinco will broadcast on January 21 and 22 in prime time.
Surrounded by impressive mountain ranges, the Italian region of Trentino-Alto Adige has been the chosen location to record with a CineAlta digital cinematography camera from Sony, this new version of Romeo and Juliet. Emblematic natural and urban locations have hosted the filming of this fiction that also includes medieval environments to faithfully recreate the dark and mysterious Middle Ages, a harsh and cruel time in which the bitter conflict between two feudal families culminates in the tragedy of the two young lovers. One of the most notable settings of the miniseries is Castel Valer, a castle located in the municipality of Tassullo, where the fabulous masked party takes place in which Romeo and Juliet fall in love.
The recording of this miniseries
Nearly 40 actors and 1,000 extras make up the cast of this television adaptation of the tragedy by British playwright William Shakespeare, filmed entirely in Italy over nine weeks. Unlike the original story, Juliet's balcony, the setting in which the young Capulet is courted by the daring Montague, is not located in the courtyard of an urban building, but in Castel Campo, a castle surrounded by a lush forest. The fight scenes are other distinctive elements of fiction, which have not required the advice of a master of arms to design the sword choreographies, since in the Early Middle Ages combat was done hand-to-hand: with short swords wielded with both hands.
