Jonas CarpignanoYesterday afternoon at the awards ceremony for Critics' Week The jury, chaired by the French director Rebecca Zlotowski, selected the short A Ciambra (Young Lions of Gypsy) by director Jonas Carpignano as winner of the award Sony CineAlta Discovery.

The Italian Jonas Carpignano directed Ressurrection Man (2010), A Chjana (2011) y A Ciambra (2014), which is his third short. He is currently filming his first feature film in Italy.

"Sometimes a feature or short film comes from nothing: just from the desire to record people, everyday events, without a script or financing to back the project. For Jonas Carpignano, A Ciambra It is one of those surprise works that really have soul. While the film appears from the unexpected, and is produced in a hurry…”, said Pierre-Simon Gutman, member of the shorts selection committee.

Fabien Pisano, head of European marketing at Sony, congratulates the winner and admits that he was “very impressed by the authenticity and dynamism of the story. Critics' Week It is a unique opportunity to see films with this kind of freshness and personal vision. Sony has always enthusiastically supported new talent in film production, so being here in Cannes at the heart of the film industry is very important to us. We will be happy to return next year.”
