WD presents its new cloud storage solution of up to 8 TB in two bays
The new My Cloud EX2 offers advanced NAS features with up to 8TB capacity for creative professionals and professional users.
WD, a subsidiary of Western Digital, has just expanded its range of personal cloud devices by introducing the new My Cloud EX2, a high-performance two-bay network storage (NAS) solution. Both My Cloud EX2 and My Cloud EX4 have been designed for creative professionals and prosumers, who need to securely store, share, manage and back up large amounts of digital data.
Data management and security features offer users multiple ways to protect their digital files (photos, music, videos...), whether with disk management options in RAID 0, RAID 1; JBOD and SPAN modes, while backup data protection options include RAID 1, USB, cloud or LAN/WAN. The new My Cloud EX2 comes configured in RAID 1 mode to protect data from the start, but you have the option to switch to other data protection modes easily. Users can use their My Cloud EX2 to centralize and backup their computers and devices with WD SmartWare software for PC users, while Mac users can use Apple Time Machine backup software to protect data.
The My Cloud EX2 line offers several capacity options to users, from diskless drives so that users can configure their own NAS with the drives they want, to systems with 4, 6 or 8 TB capacity. In addition, it is possible to connect USB 3.0 hard drives through the My Cloud EX2's USB expansion port to instantly increase its storage capacity.
My Cloud EX2 drives integrate WD Red hard drives so users can maximize reliability in a single, 24/7 NAS environment. WD Red drives are developed with NASware 2.0 technology, which improves drive efficiency and protects data in the event of an interruption or loss of power.
On the other hand, the WD My Cloud app integrates with the main public cloud services, so users can easily transfer content between their Dropbox, SkyDrive and Google Drive accounts. With the WD My Cloud desktop application it is possible to browse, control and share digital files from anywhere in the world in a very simple and intuitive way.
Advanced features
My Cloud EX2 includes advanced data server options such as a built-in file server, FTP server, backup server, and P2P download server. Users can also download and run third-party apps such as aMule, Icecast, Joomla!, phpBB, phpMyAdmin, Transmission, SqueezeCenter.
Likewise, it will be possible to stream videos and photos to your televisions, media players, game consoles and other DLNA/UPnP devices through the Twonky 7.2 server, a certified DLNA 1.5 media server, and the integrated iTunes server.
