America already accounts for 55.6% of Hispasat's income
The satellite operator's income has reached 201.4 million euros, driven by internationalization. America already contributes 55.6% of the total. The launch in 2013 of Amazonas 3, the first Ka-band satellite in Latin America, reinforces the group's presence in Latin America.
The satellite communications operator, Hispasat, has obtained revenues of 201.4 million euros in 2013, 0.57% more than in 2012. Discounting the adverse effect of exchange rates, this increase would have been 4.35%, which shows the great commercial effort made and the commitment to internationalization.
By geographic area, 55.6% of revenue from space capacity comes from the American market (which is growing at 2.4%), while 44.4% corresponds to clients located in Europe and North Africa (which is down by 2.2%). In 2008, at the beginning of the crisis, these percentages were 31.5% and 68.5% respectively.
Elena Pisonero, president of Hispasat, admits that "our determined commitment to the internationalization process is allowing us to grow and counteract the adverse environment in the markets of origin. In 2013, in addition to continuing to invest, we have intensified our commercial effort to strengthen our client portfolio with a more diversified and quality service offering. And this is the line that we are going to follow in the coming years."
In 2013, EBITDA reached 163.8 million euros, 1.68% higher than in 2012. Thus, the EBITDA/Revenue margin remained above 80% in 2013, higher than the sector average.
Investments in 2013 reached 157.4 million euros, maintaining the pace and solidity of recent years. The manufacturing of the Amazonas 3 satellite, the first Ka-band satellite in Latin America, was completed, successfully launched on February 7, and the Amazonas 4A and Hispasat AG1 programs have continued.
The group has obtained a consolidated operating profit of 68.4 million euros, slightly lower than in 2012 due to the increase in depreciation due to the increase in the fleet with the commissioning of the Amazonas 3 satellite and exchange rate differences. This also impacted the result before taxes, which decreased by 3.5%, to 66.3 million euros. Despite this, the net result attributed to the parent company increased by 5.5% to reach 54.3 million euros.
During this year, Hispasat has continued to provide services to telecommunications operators and broadcasters in the audiovisual sector, as well as to the business and government environment, areas in which the Group has significant experience. The company is also working on the diversification of its business lines, offering new video and data services and promoting broadband services, including Internet access in mobility environments.
