Nacho Benítez explains the secrets of lighting in a seminar by Moncada and Lorenzo

Throughout the seminar, this expert director of photography explained aspects such as the fundamentals of lighting, exposure variables, how to interpret the light of the scene or adapt the light to the camera.

Moncada and Lorenzo organized a seminar on lighting this Wednesday at the ABC Museum in Madrid. Given the great demand for participation, Moncada extended the initially planned session to two, leaving numerous interested parties still on the waiting list for another future seminar.

This workshop with a clear practical focus was taught by Nacho Benítez.

Throughout the seminar, this expert director of photography explained aspects such as the fundamentals of lighting, exposure variables, how to interpret the light of the scene or adapt the light to the camera.

He also delved into key issues when adjusting the image during filming according to the lighting conditions and the exposure tools we have at our disposal.

Benítez emphasized the need to have clear criteria and make decisions based on the available means. “Well-shot material on camera means gaining half a step in grading,” he said.

Among the advice he gave to the participants, Benítez was in favor of analyzing whether the light of the scenery conditions the ratios and adding light to the scene to complement the natural light, unstable in intensity and frequency by nature.

For the director of photography, it is essential to adjust the light to the camera, decide what visual look we want by aperture or focal length, choose an aperture to illuminate for an aesthetic decision and control the light levels of the scene. To carry out the practical demonstrations, attendees were able to see first-hand the possibilities offered by the Canon XF and XA cameras (XF305, XF300, XF100, XF105, XA20, and Sola 6 and other LED panels.
