'Eight Basque Surnames' surpasses 'The Others' and is now the highest-grossing Spanish film in history
Emilio Martínez-Lázaro's comedy has accumulated more than 6.6 million viewers and its collection exceeds 38.8 million euros.
Eight Basque surnames continues to break records and is now the most viewed Spanish film in history with more than 6.6 million viewers, surpassing the mark it held The Others. In addition, it continues to be the undisputed number one at the Spanish box office since it was released on March 14, thus becoming the Spanish-language film that has spent the most weeks in the first position of the ranking consecutively, breaking the records of Impossible y The orphanage.
The accumulated collection of Eight Basque surnames exceeds 38.8 million euros, which already places the film in fourth position in the ranking of highest-grossing films in Spain, only surpassed by Avatar, Impossible y Titanic.
The film is directed by Emilio Martínez-Lázaro, with a script by Borja Cobeaga and Diego San José, and starring Clara Lago, Dani Rovira, Carmen Machi and Karra Elejalde. Produced by LaZona, Kowalski Films and Snow Films A.I.E. for Telecinco Cinema, and has the collaboration of ETB and Canal+, with distribution by Universal Pictures International Spain.
