Telefónica and Dolby sign a global agreement to drive the adoption of premium entertainment experiences on smartphones

Telefónica will optimize its offer of premium mobile entertainment devices with high-quality Dolby sound, offering more attractive experiences.

Telefónica and Dolby Laboratories have signed a global agreement through which both companies will collaborate to drive the adoption of premium sound solutions in smartphones. Telefónica will select the best devices on the market from the main manufacturers, in an effort to optimize the mobile entertainment experiences of its users with high-quality Dolby sound technologies.

Francisco Montalvo, global director of Telefonica's Terminals Unit, assures that "this alliance responds to a real need of users, who increasingly use their smartphones and tablets to watch movies and television shows, play video games or listen to music. As mobile entertainment devices, our smartphones and tablets deserve to have the high-quality surround sound that Dolby offers." Telefónica already uses Dolby sound technologies in its IPTV and OTT (Over-the-Top video services) services.

For his part, John Couling, senior vice president of E-Media at Dolby, maintains that "Dolby Audio is the perfect complement for next-generation mobile devices and offers the quality experiences that users expect and demand when enjoying movies, games and movies. From the soft whisper of the breeze to the most violent explosions, Dolby Audio allows the public to hear every detail of each scene, just as the artist sought to convey it. For us, this collaboration with Telefónica to enhance the quality of mobile sound “It is an exciting opportunity to work so that consumers do not have to sacrifice quality in their mobile entertainment.”

Dolby Audio is compatible with major streaming services across multiple devices, and its volume control technology keeps the volume constant, even when switching content or media players. Dolby Audio technology is also capable of detecting dialogue in multimedia content, actively improving its intelligibility. Devices with Dolby Audio offer a more balanced and natural sound, respecting the original bass and treble, while the Custom Tuning system eliminates unnecessary noise and distortion.
