Austria

Austria intends to migrate its digital terrestrial television (DTT) distribution network from DVB-T to DVB-T2 in autumn 2016.

In 2006, the Austrian regulator KommAustria put out to tender a series of licenses for DTT broadcasting that expire on August 1, 2016. It will be then when Austria begins a new transition, in this case towards the second generation of the DVB standard.

This migration will improve image quality and optimize bandwidth to offer services such as high definition or mobile television. The channels distributed by multiplexes A and B and that will be affected by the migration are ORF eins, ORF 2, ORF III, ORF Sport+, ATV, Puls 4 and Servus TV as well as SchauTV in Vienna.

The SimpliTv platform, which began broadcasting last year, already broadcasts its offer made up of thirty channels under the DVB-T2 standard.
