The Film Academy honors the actor, director and producer for “a dazzling career on both sides of the Atlantic.”
The Board of Directors of the Film Academy has unanimously agreed to honor the actor, director and producer for “a brilliant career on both sides of the Atlantic, in which he has developed a versatile career as a performer, has shown his point of view as a director and has immersed himself in the field of production to support national values.”
Owner of a career marked by risk and commitment, José Antonio Domínguez Bandera (Antonio Banderas) will receive the Goya of Honor from the Academy in recognition of the intense and extensive career of this man from Malaga without borders who sees himself as a “warrior” of interpretation.
Since its premiere in Labyrinth of passions (1982), the first of his collaborations with Pedro Almodóvar, until Automata, his foray into science fiction, more than 90 films credit this well-known professional who has also sat in the director's chair with Crazy people in Alabama y The path of the English, and has triumphed on Broadway with Nine.
Nominated four times for the Goya (Matador, ¡Átame!, Two Much y The skin I live in) and awarded the Academy Gold Medal in 2004, the artist always lets himself be guided by his intuition. Football was Banderas' first passion, which has conquered Spanish cinema (to his five works with Almódovar are added Requiem for a Spanish Peasant, Pharaoh's Court, Get Down to the Moor, Shoot!, among many other titles) and the American one, which he arrived without knowing English with The mambo kings.

Based in the United States since the mid-nineties, this figure never forgets his land, where he is currently filming Altamira and from where he supports young talents through his production company Green Moon Producciones (Justin and the Sword of Courage, The Lady and Death, Three Days…).
