Antonio Banderas receives the Medal of Honor from the SGAE

With this recognition, the SGAE thanks Antonio Banderas for “his extraordinary contribution to the culture of his time and his valuable representation of Spanish artistic talent throughout the planet.”

Antonio Banderas received this Sunday the Medal of Honor of the General Society of Authors and Editors (SGAE) from the hands of the president of the entity, Antonio Onetti, in a private event that took place at the Soho Theater in Malaga. The ceremony could be seen during the gala of the Max Performing Arts Awards held yesterday, Monday, at the Cervantes Theater in the Andalusian city.

Con la Medalla de Honor, máxima distinción que otorga la entidad, la SGAE agradece a Antonio Banderas “su extraordinaria contribución a la cultura de su tiempo y su valiosa representación del talento artístico español en todo el planeta”.

Tras recoger el galardón, el creador malagueño, socio de la entidad, ha agradecido a la SGAE “velar realmente por los derechos de los trabajadores de este mundo del espectáculo. Y en estos momentos necesitamos su ayuda, porque estamos viviendo en un mundo muy confuso donde todas las cosas están cambiando, donde esos derechos muchas veces se vuelven demasiado difusos. Lo agradezco en mi nombre y en nombre de todo mi equipo”.

Banderas, que ha reconocido que el Soho Theatre It is the project of his life, "from the beginning this has been a dream," he stressed: "I am an actor for the theater, I am not an actor for the cinema and I am super grateful to the world of cinema, but it is the theater that made me an actor." Likewise, he recalled that it is “a house open not only to the public but to young people who want to find a place to develop as artists.”

Onetti has highlighted the artistic career of the Malaga native as an international actor and later as a film director and theater entrepreneur: "it is a privilege for the image of our country. But, above all, it is a reference for our creators, especially for younger talents who also try to take their work outside our territory."

The president of the SGAE has pointed out that these honorary awards “sometimes appear when an artist reaches the end of his career,” but in the case of Banderas “he is at his best, after performing in pain and glory one of the best works of his career, now immersed in another important filming, promoting his own show in his own theater, which has competed in this edition of the Max, and with so much cinema and theater ahead."
