Sony bets on dual 4K projection for large format cinema screens
The SRX-R515DS combines two Sony SRX-R515 projectors to provide a total brightness of 30,000 lumens.
Sony has announced a powerful new, easy-to-use dual projection solution that brings 4K image quality to larger movie theaters.
The SRX-R515DS combines two Sony SRX-R515 projectors to provide a total brightness of 30,000 lumens. This dual system provides reference lighting levels for 2D presentations on screens up to 19.5 m/64 ft for operation at 48 cd/m2 on white screen with 1.8 gain, or 3D presentations on screens up to 23 m/75 ft for operation at 15.5 cd/m2 on silver screen with gain of 2.4 (depending on installation conditions).
Equipped with an average contrast ratio of 8000:1, the SRX-R515DS ensures images with rich, intense blacks and radiant brightness.
Native 4K resolution ensures that movies sent to theaters in DCP 4K format are projected with the highest possible image quality. Even 2K images with DCP 2K, DCP 3D, or alternative HD content are automatically optimized to 4K pixel resolution, now even in 3D mode.
Plus, switching between 2D and 3D presentation is quick and easy, and doesn't require changing lenses. The incorporation of static 3D filters, included as standard, in the projectors is all you need to modify the system configuration in the different projections. Unlike other “triple flash” solutions, the 3D image produced by the SRX‑R515DS system is smooth, natural and easy on the eyes, just like any Sony Digital Cinema projection system.
Inside the SRX-R515P digital cinema projector is the innovative high-pressure mercury (HPM) lamp array. This DCI-compliant projector uses an array of six high-pressure mercury (HPM) lamps, meaning that, in addition to delivering spectacular image quality, cinema operators can enjoy easy maintenance and a reduced cost of ownership. The HPM (High Pressure Mercury) multi-lamp array allows for quick and easy lamp cartridge replacement, without the need for special training, protective clothing or realignment.
The multi-lamp array reduces the risk of revenue-damaging “dark screens” that occur as a result of lamp failures caused by using conventional xenon sources. Even if a lamp fails during a screening, the presentation continues uninterrupted at slightly reduced brightness, without preventing viewers from continuing to enjoy the film.
The SRX-R515DS system projectors can be configured for side-by-side operation or aligned vertically to fit any projection booth. Installation is quick and easy, thanks to the intelligent automatic alignment system included with the product. Automatic alignment ensures precisely calibrated images across the entire cinema screen. Alignment can also be easily carried out at any time during periodic maintenance to ensure optimal performance.
The XCT-S10 Cinema Server and the XCT-M10 Integrated Media Block are supplied with the system. Optional license for Dolby Atmos support, for a fully immersive sound experience, is purchased separately.
