Mediaset Italia chooses the Smart CAM solution with embedded Wi-Fi from SmarDTV
Mediaset will take advantage of Nagra Anycast PRM technology to provide added value to its premium catalogue. Using one CAM eliminates the complexity of supporting multiple DRM systems
The Italian platform Mediaset Premium and SmarDTV, a Kudelski Group company, have successfully launched the first CI Plus Wi-Fi CAM that allows access to both broadcast content on Mediaset Premium and its OTT service over broadband in a single module.
The innovative Smart CAM solution with embedded Wi-Fi from SmarDTV combines a CI Plus and certified DVB-CI TV to become a “Smart TV” by connecting to the Mediaset Premium Play platform using the wireless WiFi connection embedded in the CAM. By downloading the Smart CAM control application suite available on the Apple App Store and Android Google Play, users gain access to more than 2,500 titles and can use a smartphone or tablet to select their favorite titles to enjoy on their integrated televisions.
The result is a very compact solution without the need for a decoder or additional cables because the CAM slots perfectly fit into the CI interface that exists on all European televisions with a screen size greater than 30 cm.
Franco Ricci, CEO of Mediaset Premium, highlighted that “we have a history of great success in implementing our premium broadcast services using conditional access modules and iDTVs that began in 2009 with the launch of our first products and we see this evolution as the next logical step for users to now access our Premium Play services through OTT.”
"The addition of wireless connectivity to our CAM product line opens new horizons for service providers. This is completely in line with the vision of extending DVB with CI Plus to the broadband world and is a great example of how we see the future of CI Plus products. CAM Wireless truly offers service providers a uniform smart TV platform and we are delighted to launch this product with Mediaset Premium which has been the main driver of CAM innovation in the last decade," commented CEO Eric Chaubert of SmarDTV.
