To recreate this world, Telson created digital effects on more than three hundred shots.

EXTINCTIONEXTINCTION

Extinction, the survival horror film directed by Miguel Ángel Vivas (Kidnapped) narrates a post-apocalyptic world of perpetual snow in which a couple and their daughter survive alone against the threat of the “infected.”

It is a chilling film with a strong dramatic and interpretive charge where white monsters are confused in the snow and in which digital effects are fundamental for the development of the story.

To recreate this desolate world, Telson has carried out the digital effects using color schemes and “matte paintings” with which the snowy landscapes were generated. He also expanded the sets and carried out the “freezing” of the stages.

In addition, Telson increased snow storms in 3D, created airplanes, blizzards and integrated fogs and vapors. In this film, in which the survivors have to fight a series of zombies to avoid becoming one of them, arm cuts and pupil erasing were simulated.

In total, Telson made 300 shots with digital retouching, reinforcement of shots and blood, breaking glass... All of this has involved months of work in which tools such as Nuke have been used. The Foundry and Flame of Autodesk. The feature film was shot in Scope, which made post-production work difficult, but allowed us to achieve a more attractive and peculiar result.

Miguel Ángel Vivas stated after filming the film that he loved the idea of creating a horror story in a town in the middle of the snow. "It seems to me to be a beautiful, idyllic and almost magical setting, which clashes with the very idea of terror. In this way, apart from the metaphor about characters frozen in space and time, we have that fable-like setting that gives the story an almost timeless and, above all, universal characteristic," he commented.
