Miguel Ángel Calvo Buttini combines fiction and documentary in 'The world is ANSÍ'

With production of PC Axis Jump (Madrid) and American Night (Navarra), Miguel Ángel Calvo Buttini begins filming his seventh feature film, 'The world is ANSÍ', a project that combines documentary and fiction to approach the figure of the Basque writer Pío Baroja.

The film is based on an original idea by Álvaro Lion-Depetre, also the main screenwriter along with the director himself, and proposes a narrative device in which fiction serves as a gateway to the Barojian universe.

The story follows Ana, a graduate student who is assigned her Master's Thesis on the famous, prolific and controversial author. The character will be played by the Navarrese actress Nahia Bergasa. Through her research, Ana engages in an imagined dialogue with Baroja's alter ego, played by the Navarrese actor Álvaro Subiés, creating a bridge between the writer's life and contemporary concerns.

Filming will take place in Madrid, Navarre, San Sebastián and Zestoa, a town where Baroja worked as a doctor. The premiere is scheduled for the last quarter of 2026 by Barton Films, coinciding with the 70th anniversary of Baroja's death.
