The 29th Telecommunications and Digital Economy Meeting brings together the top executives of technology companies in Santander

Under the motto 'Strategies for the Single Market', this meeting constitutes one of the most relevant events in the ICT industry calendar.

The 29th Telecommunications and Digital Economy Meeting, organized by AMETIC (Multisectorial Association of Electronics, Information Technologies, Telecommunications and Digital Content Companies) will bring together prominent professionals from the ICT industry from August 31 to September 3 at the Palacio de la Magdalena, in Santander, within the framework of the summer courses organized by the Menéndez Pelayo University (UIMP).

The renowned Spanish chef, Ferrán Adriá, who has revolutionized the world of gastronomic creation, will talk about innovation in an event under the motto Strategies for the Single Market, will bring together the top executives of leading technology companies along with senior representatives of Spanish and European public organizations.

The meeting constitutes one of the most relevant events in the ICT industry calendar. For four days, the main actors in a fundamental sector for the national economy will present their reflections and opinions on the evolution of the Telecommunications sector and future trends related to these technologies.

La representación institucional la abrirá el ministro de Industria, Energía y Turismo José Manuel Soria que inaugurará el Encuentro, junto a José Manuel de Riva, presidente de AMETIC; César Nombela, rector magnífico de la UIMP; y Emilio Gilolmo vicepresidente ejecutivo de la Fundación Telefónica. Asimismo, en su transcurso, subirán al estrado Pilar del Castillo, eurodiputada y presidenta de la Fundación Europea de Internet, el secretario de Estado de Telecomunicaciones y para la Sociedad de la Información, Víctor Calvo-Sotelo; la Secretaria de Estado de Investigación, Desarrollo e Innovación, Carmen Vela; el subsecretario de Economía y Competitividad, Miguel Temboury; la Secretaria General de Industria, Begoña Cristeto; el presidente de la Comisión Nacional de Mercados y Competencia, José María Marín Quemada; el presidente de la FEMP y alcalde de Santander, Iñigo de la Serna, el Director General de Digital Europe, John Higgings, entre otros.

Como el propio lema del Encuentro desvela, esta edición mira hacia el Mercado Único Digital Europeo, dentro de cuyo marco se habrán de implementar estrategias que contribuyan tanto a la reactivación de la industria tecnológica como a la mejora de la competitividad de la Unión Europea. Este carácter europeo lo viene a acentuar la presencia en el Encuentro de relevantes personalidades de este ámbito como Günther H. Oettinger (pendiente de confirmación), Comisario Europeo para la “Digital Economy & Society”; John Higgings, director general Digital Europe, o la ya mencionada Pilar del Castillo.

Como ya se ha señalado, el encuentro contará con un keynote speaker de excepción en la persona de Ferran Adriá que nos dará su visión de la innovación como palanca de acción. Esta edición trae novedades que giran alrededor de la transversalidad de la revolución digital. En esta línea, se programan diversas mesas redondas con distintos focos: Industria 4.0, innovación digital en España, Smart Cities o la revolución digital en el mundo financiero. Y añadiremos otra con relevantes personalidades de la comunicación digital para introducir nuevas reflexiones en el evento: “La revolución digital vista por los medios ¿Qué podemos hacer?” donde medios de comunicación nativos digitales nos hablarán de su presente y futuro.
