AMETIC convenes the 29th Telecommunications and Digital Economy Meeting

With the focus on strategies for an effective Digital Single Market, this meeting will take place in Santander from August 31 to September 3.

Under the motto Strategies for the Digital Single Market, AMETIC (Asociación Multisectorial de Empresas de la Electrónica, las Tecnologías de la Información, de las Telecomunicaciones y de los Contenidos Digitales) organiza el 29 Encuentro de Telecomunicaciones y Economía Digital que se celebrará del 31 de agosto al 3 de septiembre, en el Palacio de la Magdalena, en Santander, en el marco de los cursos de verano que organiza la Universidad Menéndez Pelayo (UIMP).

The meeting, which constitutes one of the most relevant events on the Digital Industry calendar, brings together the main actors in a fundamental sector for the national economy. During these days, renowned speakers will participate, senior representatives of Spanish and European public organizations, top executives of leading technology companies, who will present their reflections and opinions on the evolution of the Telecommunications sector and the Digital Economy and future trends related to these technologies.

The institutional representation will be opened by the Minister of Industry, Energy and Tourism José Manuel Soria who will inaugurate the Meeting, together with José Manuel de Riva, president of AMETIC; César Nombela, magnificent rector of the UIMP; and Emilio Gilolmo executive vice president of the Telefónica Foundation. Likewise, during its course, Pilar del Castillo, MEP and president of the European Internet Foundation, the Secretary of State for Telecommunications and the Information Society, Víctor Calvo-Sotelo; the Secretary of State for Research, Development and Innovation, Carmen Vela; the Undersecretary of Economy and Competitiveness, Miguel Temboury; the General Secretary of Industry, Begoña Cristeto; the President of the National Markets and Competition Commission, José María Marín Quemada; the president of the FEMP and mayor of Santander, Iñigo de la Serna, the General Director of Digital Europe, John Higgings, among others. Pending confirmation of the final names, high representation from the Government of Spain and the European Commission is also expected.

Como el propio lema del Encuentro desvela, la edición que se presenta mira hacia el Mercado Único Digital Europeo, dentro de cuyo marco se habrán de implementar estrategias que contribuyan a la reactivación de la industria tecnológica y a la mejora de la competitividad de la Unión Europea. Este carácter europeo lo viene a acentuar la presencia en el Encuentro de relevantes personalidades de este ámbito como Günther H. Oettinger (pendiente de confirmación), Comisario Europeo para la “Digital Economy & Society”; John Higgings, director general Digital Europe, o la propia Pilar del Castillo, eurodiputada y presidenta de la Fundación Europea de Internet.

Ferran Adria

El encuentro contará con un keynote speaker de excepción en la persona de Ferran Adriá que nos dará su visión de la innovación como palanca de acción. Esta edición trae novedades que giran alrededor de la transversalidad de la revolución digital. En esta línea, se programan diversas mesas redondas con distintos focos: Industria 4.0, innovación digital en España, Smart Cities o la revolución digital en el mundo financiero. Y añadiremos otra con relevantes personalidades de la comunicación digital para introducir nuevas reflexiones en el evento: “La revolución digital vista por los medios ¿Qué podemos hacer?” donde medios de comunicación nativos digitales nos hablarán de su presente y futuro.

In the words of José Manuel de Riva, president of AMETIC, "this 29th edition of the Meeting aims to highlight digital transformation as a driver of social and business development and the single European digital market as the necessary playing field to achieve it. The Digital Economy is key to the long-awaited economic recovery and social well-being of our country."
