Hispasat UIMP Meeting

Yesterday, Wednesday, the VIII Meeting on Space Telecommunications organized by Hispasat was inaugurated at the Menéndez Pelayo International University (UIMP) in Santander. Under the title The responses of the satellite sector to the new challenges of the telecommunications market, the top executives of the main companies in the sector, both national and international, debate these challenges and look for solutions to the new demands posed by an increasingly competitive market.

At the opening ceremony, the president of Hispasat, Elena Pisonero, pointed out that "the emergence of new disruptive agents from border to satellite sectors makes it necessary to open up to new strategic approaches that enrich the services of telecommunications satellites."

According to Pisonero, "to respond to new challenges we must reflect deeply on our strengths and weaknesses and how both must be worked on so that the satellite remains competitive. Thus, we must know how to enhance those scenarios in which we are unbeatable - high capacity, full coverage, extensive experience - through increasingly refined use of the technologies at our disposal."

Pisonero added that, faced with these challenges, Hispasat seeks innovative solutions to strengthen the satellite offer, focusing on the needs of its clients. Thus, it works on the development of advanced audiovisual services, such as multi-screen triple play solutions for the distribution of satellite content on different devices, or Ultra High Definition TV, a field in which the company is a benchmark in the sector. Mobility and connectivity services, or solutions for emergency and security situations, are other areas in which Hispasat is focusing its efforts on innovation.

During yesterday's session, representatives of different companies in our country and the main international satellite manufacturers have examined various possibilities to make telecommunications satellites more competitive, reducing their dimensions, analyzing how to apply Moore's law to payloads or improving their construction process to make them more flexible, efficient and lighter.

In a round table today, Thursday, new technological advances in the field of the user ground segment and developments in satellite platforms and their control ground segment were discussed. The last session, which brings together the main satellite launchers, will focus on their contribution to the competitiveness of space telecommunications.
