The sector, immersed in the massive deployment of new generation ultra-fast fixed and mobile networks, which in 2012 invested more than 4,000 million euros, welcomes the Government's firm commitment to eliminate the obstacles that currently hinder such deployment.

The Minister of Industry, Energy and Tourism, José Manuel Soria, together with the president of Ametic, José Manuel de Riva

While waiting to know the details of the text sent to the Cortes Generales, AMETIC, Multisector Association of Electronics, Information Technology, Communications and Digital Content Companies of Spain, values very positively the draft General Telecommunications Law approved by the Council of Ministers at its meeting last Friday.

Among the reforms contained in the draft General Telecommunications Law, which responds to the demands of the sector, which has repeatedly requested regulatory measures that favor private investment in infrastructure, there are measures aimed at recovering market unity, so that telecommunications operators develop their activity in a context of unique rules throughout the Spanish geography.

The text also provides for a series of administrative simplification measures that make it possible to eliminate regulatory barriers that different Administrations impose on the deployment of networks and the provision of telecommunications services.

In order to facilitate the deployment of networks, the bill plans to reduce costs so that operators can expand the coverage of their networks.

AMETIC considers that the implementation of these measures will contribute to greater development of the telecommunications sector, an essential sector for the economy, which according to 2012 data provided direct employment to more than 66,000 workers and reached a turnover of 35,228 million euros, which represents 3.5 percent of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP). Its investment in that period exceeded 4,000 million euros.
