Hipasat It has successfully completed the installation of a connectivity solution for the supply of audiovisual services and Internet access on a AVE train (high Spanish speed).

This pilot project began at the end of May on a train of the Alstom series 100 that covers the Madrid-Sevilla route.

It has a Wi -Fi access that offers connectivity to more than 400 travelers simultaneously and reaches a large bandwidth by combining available technologies, while the train runs its route at 350 km/h.

The solution also offers live television, a video system that provides information related to real -time trip, an audiovisual content server with the latest cinematographic premieres and audio services and press kiosk.

The project includes a gyro -stabilized antenna that allows permanent connection with the satellite, which will be integrated into the train chassis through aerodynamic adaptation.

Hispasat has made available to this project its broadband platforms and the capacity of 1D and 1E satellites.

Satellite coverage

The use of satellite technology allows us to accelerate the implementation of broadband services in high -speed trains. In the medium and long term, the satellite connection will guarantee the continuity of the service along the entire tray of the trains, even where the deployment of the terrestrial networks does not reach.

Since 2008, Hispasat is the reference operator in the provision of satellite communications services in high -speed trains. His experience in the fleets of European trains Thalys and Italo have allowed him to develop a robust solution, resistant to all the interferences that arise in an environment as hostile as that of a high -speed train. In addition, thanks to the combination with 3G and 4G technologies, high quality connectivity is maintained without interruptions along the entire journey, even during the passage of the train through tunnels.

On the basis of this pilot project, Renfe will display a connectivity and entertainment service in its high -speed trains that will combine cellular and satellite communications and whose contract has been awarded to Telefónica.

Telefónica has already demonstrated the first tests of what will be the content and customer services platform. In addition to Wi -Fi connection, customers aboard trains will have at their disposal different information and entertainment content organized in several navigation windows: cinema, series, TV channels, books, press and magazines, Marketplace, sports, games and courses and entertainment.
