Samsung aims to turn the television into the control center of the entire smart home
All televisions in its 2016 SUHD line will have Hub IoT Ready technology that will intuitively offer complete connectivity between more than 200 devices.
Samsung It intends for its entire line of 2016 Smart TV televisions to be prepared for the Internet of Things (IoT), and connected to the SmartThings platform. This open platform allows users to connect, manage and control smart devices and IoT services.
Within the Samsung Smart TV 2016 range, all 2016 Samsung SUHD televisions will have integrated Hub IoT technology, which will allow the television itself to act as the control center for the entire smart home. Samsung has developed its own Hub IoT technology with SmartThings for the 2016 Samsung SUHD TVs.
Samsung SUHD TVs can connect to and control Samsung devices and SmartThings sensors, as well as more than 200 other SmartThings-compatible devices. This includes everything from lights, doors and cameras, from a wide variety of third-party manufacturers recognized for their high quality. For full connectivity support with SmartThings compatible devices, the SmartThings Extend USB adapter is required.
At CES 2016, Samsung will showcase the future of television and demonstrate how Samsung Smart TVs are at the center of the growing IoT ecosystem.
Hyun Suk Kim, president of the Visual Display division of Samsung Electronics, highlights that “the 2016 line of Samsung Smart TVs will offer consumers new possibilities and will cement Samsung's market leader position, as the first company to launch IoT-ready televisions on the market.”
Alex Hawkinson, CEO and co-founder of SmartThings, recognizes that “applying this technology to the devices currently present in our homes is a big step in making it easier for anyone to experience the benefits of the smart home.”
SmartThings allows users to access all their smart devices directly from their smartphone and Samsung SUHD TV, rather than having to control the devices individually with a multitude of different apps. With the SmartThings app, users can easily connect and manage all their smart home devices and services, through a single, simple user interface.
With an outdoor camera connected to their Samsung Smart TV, users can check when visitors arrive, and open the front door right from their couch. Motion sensor alerts can also jump directly on the TV screen if movement is detected outside the house, providing greater security and peace of mind, whether we are inside the house or gone out.
On the other hand, the Cinema mode of the SmartThings application allows, for example, to create a perfect home theater environment. It allows the user to automatically adjust everything from ambient lights to background sound, immediately creating an optimal viewing experience for enjoying a movie.
