Santi Amodeo will receive the Eloy Award from the Church in Malaga

His films have participated in most of the major festivals in the world, such as Toronto, Shanghai, AFI Fest in Los Angeles, Mar del Plata, Karlovy Vary or San Sebastián.

The 19th edition of the Malaga Spanish Film Festival, which this year takes place from April 22 to May 1, will award the Eloy de la Iglesia Award, which is presented in collaboration with the newspaper La Opinión de Málaga, to the director and screenwriter Santi Amodeo.

Amodeo (Sevilla, 1969) estudió escenografía en el Instituto del Teatro de Sevilla. Es músico, guitarrista y compositor en varios discos y bandas sonoras y ha desarrollado su carrera en el cine como director y guionista. Sus películas han participado en la mayoría de los grandes festivales del mundo, como el de Toronto, Shangai, AFI Fest de Los Ángeles, Mar del Plata, Karlovy Vary o San Sebastián.

En sus inicios formó pareja con el también andaluz Alberto Rodríguez, en obras como el cortometraje Bancos y The Pilgrim Factor. En 2004, fue candidato a mejor director novel en los premios Goya por la película Astronauts. Su largometraje Cabeza de Perro (2006) fue la primera película española que ganó un premio en el Festival de Shangai, el más importante del cine asiático.

En 2013, escribió y dirigió Who killed Bambi?, producida por Rodar y Rodar y que estaba basada en la película mexicana Matando cabos. Se situó entre las diez películas españolas más vistas de ese año.
